The 38th CIB W78 conference on Information and Communication Technologies for AECO and the 8th LDAC workshop aim to bring together an international community of researchers and industrials interested in the areas of Construction Informatics, BIM, Digital Twin and Knowledge Management. The scope of the conference is broad in terms of the design, construction and operation and occupancy of constructed facilities, but it primarily relates to the integration and communication of data, information and knowledge in the life cycle of a facility.

The event, which takes place over a full week in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, will comprise keynote speeches from recognized scientific and industry speakers, parallel scientific sessions of CIB-W78 & LDAC presentations of scientific papers and industry sessions addressing the hot topics faced by the AECO industry companies.

The conference will also host workshops organized by EU-funded projects consortia in close collaboration with the European Construction Technology Association (ECTP) objectives and roadmap.

Like every year, a jury will attribute the Charles M. Eastman Top PhD Paper Award. This award, presented at each of W78's annual international conferences, recognizes the importance of forming top young researchers in the core field of W78, “the application of integrated IT throughout the life-cycle of the design, construction and occupancy of buildings and related facilities”.

The CIB (International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction) was established in 1953 as an association with the objectives of stimulating and facilitating international cooperation and information exchange between governmental research institutes in the building and construction sector, with an emphasis on those institutes engaged in technical fields of research. CIB W78 – Information Technology for Construction – is one of the largest and most active working commissions of the CIB. The scope of W78’s work is broad in terms of the design, construction and occupation and occupancy of constructed facilities, but it primarily relates to the integration and communication of data, information and knowledge in the life cycle of a facility.

The LDAC workshop series provides a focused overview of technical and applied research on the usage of semantic web, linked data and web of data technologies for architecture and construction (design, engineering, construction, operation, etc.). The workshop aims to bring together researchers, industry stakeholders, and standardization bodies of the broader Linked Building Data (LBD) community. The aim of the workshop is to present current developments, coordinate efforts, bring together stakeholders, and elaborate use cases.

Time slots dedicated to scientific exchanges among participants will be planned to maximize interactions and encourage networking and future collaborations.

Title: Simplifying the delivery of ICDD containers

Description: Information Container for linked Document Delivery (ICDD), as described in ISO-21597, is a standard for archiving and sharing data in AEC projects following open formats. The project’s data is expressed as a unified RDF graph containing links between documents and is stored as a zipped archive. It is vendor-agnostic and particularly useful for future-proofing project information. As the process of producing such a container can be cumbersome we ‘re proposing an approach that combines a user-friendly interface with data analytics processes, in order to simplify the production of the ICDD container and therefore make it accessible to wider audience.
